Walking & Rambling
For the keen walkers amongst you Thatched Eaves is a perfect spot for some serious (and not so serious) walking. We are approximately midway on the Avon Valley Path, a walk split into 5 sections totalling some 34 miles that takes you from Salisbury Cathedral in Wiltshire, down through Hampshire and into Dorset finishing in the lovely Priory town of Christchurch. For the more leisurely strollers, we are around 0.75 miles from the entrance into the New Forest National Park with hundreds of miles of free walking at your disposal to suit your ability.
The New Forest and surrounding Hampshire, Wiltshire and Dorset countryside are extremely popular for cycling pursuits and offer an abundance of on and off road cycling routes to suit all abilities. We have maps and routes available for guests to use if they would like any assistance on planning their route.
Free jet wash facilities are also available at Thatched Eaves for the committed off roaders!
Cross over the road from Thatched Eaves and you are on the River Avon. The Hampshire Avon is one of the best examples of English Chalk streams and is very popular for river fishing.
We can organise day passes including equipment hire at our local Rockbourne Trout Fishery, supplier of our delicious smoked trout www.rockbournetroutfishery.co.uk.
Blashford Lakes Nature Reserve is situated within one mile of Thatched Eaves and is managed by the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust. Constructed on the former Gravel pits the area has been a Nature Reserve since 1995 and spans 159 hectares including several miles of pathways with hides offering bird spotters a superb opportunity to watch a variety of birds in their native habitat.
New Forest Water Park is located just over 1 mile from Thatched Eaves and is home to the South’s first Cable Wakeboard System and the UK’s first Wibit Inflatable Sports Aqua Park offering kids and big kids hours of wet and wacky fun!
Ellingham Water Ski and Wakeboard club is also located within one mile of Thatched Eaves and offers one to one water ski, wakeboarding and windsurfing tuition and facilities.
We can cater for golf parties or casual golfers and have a number of excellent courses on our doorstep including Bramshaw’s Forest Course, the oldest golf course in Hampshire and a truly unique course winding through the National Park amongst the Forest ponies, cows and pigs.
